Truck Driver Training

•  FAST TRACK, Weekday Program Truck Drivers Training.  The training is 160 hours.  (four weeks)  The course is scheduled Monday-Saturday, 8am-6:00pm –Tuition is $4,600.  Your road test is scheduled at the Department of motor vehicle with the 160 hour Program.   SCTCC will provide the tractor and trailer for your test. 
•  ADVANCED DRIVER TRAINING is 20 hours of training. The course is scheduled on Fridays Saturdays and Sundays.  7am–5pm. Tuition is $799.  Your road test is scheduled at SCTCC.  SCTCC will provide the tractor and trailer for your test. 
  Note:  prerequisite to this course is to have completed the initial 160 training program.
• FAST TRACK, Weekend Program is 160 hours of training. (Eight weekends) The course is scheduled Saturday and Sunday, 7am-5pm – We will provide a schedule for you. Tuition is $4,600. Your road test is scheduled at the Department of motor vehicle with the FAST TRACK Program.    SCTCC will provide the tractor and trailer for your test.
• ADVANCED DRIVER TRAINING is 20 hours of training. The course is scheduled 7am-5pm   Tuition is $799.  Your road test is scheduled at SCTCC.   SCTCC will provide the tractor and trailer for your test.  Note:  prerequisite to this course is to have completed the initial 160 training program.

driving skills, students learn map reading, trip planning, log
keeping, vehicle systems, cargo handling, driving under adverse
conditions, defensive driving, and transporting hazardous materials.
The mandatory written examination and the driving test must be taken
at a designated commercial driver’s license testing center for
licensure or permit.Equipment for the driving test will be provided
to ECC students. To be commercially licensed intrastate, students
must be at least age 18; age 21 for interstate and/or to transport
placarded hazardous materials.

the Truck Driving Department that need to be
completed and returned prior to starting the
program.
Special Admission Requirement
The DOT has regulations which govern the
use of drugs and alcohol by commercial
motor vehicle drivers, and which require Elgin
Community College to conduct mandatory
drug and alcohol testing of students in the
truck driving program at specific times and
under specific conditions. These regulations
are available in the Counseling Center, the
Office of Student Life and the Truck Driving
Department.

The purpose of this program is to prepare individuals for employment as professional tractor-trailer drivers. The program is a short-term training course designed to prepare students to enter the truck driving industry. The program content includes instruction in operating diesel powered tractor trailer rigs, identifying common vehicle components, defensive driving skills, actual driving on rural, urban and interstate highways, handling cargo, backing and maneuvering tractor trailers, documentation and verification of loads, logging and the performance of vehicle inspections.

Program Overview

The Commercial Truck Driving certificate program provides basic training in the principles and skills of commercial truck operations. The program is based on the definition of a truck driver as one who operates a commercial motor vehicle of all different sizes and descriptions on all types of roads. At the completion of the program, the student is administered the Georgia CDL Skills Exam.

Entrance Requirements

*Submit a completed application and application fee;

*Be at least 18 years of age;

*Submit official high school transcript or GED transcript if applicable;

*Submit official college transcripts, if applicable;

*Present acceptable SAT, ACT, or CPE scores taken within the last 60 months, or acceptable COMPASS or ASSET scores taken within the last 60 months. Documentation on a college transcript of successful completion of appropriate courses from a regionally accredited college or university may be accepted in lieu of test scores.

*Students are required to submit a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and drug test, as well as a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report.

*18-20 year olds may take the CDL program; however, they are only allowed to drive a commercial truck in Georgia.

*Students enrolled in Commercial Truck Driving must acquire APs by the 6th day of class to receive credit for CTDL 1010.

*Students must pay the surcharge fee by the 6th day to continue into CTDL 1020/1030.

*Beginning with the third attempt, students will be accessed a testing fee of $50 for the CDL licensure exam.

CT61: Commercial Truck Driving TCC
The Commercial Truck Driving certificate program provides basic training in the principles and skills of commercial truck operations. The program is based on the definition of a truck driver as one who operates a commercial motor vehicle of all different sizes and descriptions on all types of roads. At the completion of the program, the student is administered the Georgia CDL Skills Exam.
NOTE: Applicants must be 18 years of age by program admission date. After ASSET/COMPASS scores (and learning support scores if needed) are complete, students should have all the necessary paper work completed and ready to turn in on the first day of class.
Prospective students should be advised that the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulates commercial driver licensing and requires a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and drug test and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report prior to the issuance of a commercial drivers license
(CDL) or learners permit, which is required prior to beginning in-the-truck training. Further, random drug testing is required during the course of the Commercial Truck Driving program (FMCSA Regulations 382.305 and 391, subpart E). Students are responsible for the cost of all drug screenings and
MVR.
Career Opportunities
Graduates may seek employment as Commercial Truck Drivers or related employment. Applicants must be 18 years of age for employment as an intrastate driver and 21 years of age for employment as an interstate driver.
Program graduates who are under the age of 21 may drive a commercial truck only in Georgia; therefore, Career Opportunities may be limited until graduates reach the age of 21.

FREE Intro to Commercial Truck Driving Class

Oconee Fall Line Technical College’s Commercial Truck Driving (CTD) program will be offering FREE classes to any one interested in starting a great career.

This class will give you information on completing the application process, requirements for entering the CTD program at Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC), and study tips for taking the Georgia Department of Driver’s Services Class A Permit test.

Participants will also get an opportunity to talk to an instructor to advise them on job availability, pay and hiring standards.

OFTC’s Introduction to Commercial Truck Driving class is offered every Tuesday at 5pm in Dublin and Sparta and every Thursday at 5pm in Louisville and Sandersville.
